Dear Friends of the Museum,

As the seasons change, our museum continues to be a place where history, art, music, and community come together. We are delighted to welcome you to a full calendar of engaging exhibits and events designed to inspire, educate, and connect us all. Whether this is your first visit or your fiftieth, we hope you’ll find many reasons to stop by and be part of what’s happening here.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up—we would love to see you at the museum!

 

📸 Black History Month Exhibit We opened our Black History Month exhibit last week, “521 All Stars: A Championship Story of Baseball and Community.” This powerful photography exhibit from the South Carolina State Museum will be on view through February 27. If you haven’t had a chance to visit yet, we warmly encourage you to stop by.

 

🎻 Laurens Old-Time Jam Join us on Sunday, February 8, from 2–5 PM for the Laurens Old-Time Jam. Bring an instrument and play along, or simply come listen and enjoy the music—everyone is welcome!

 

📚 Revolutionary War Lecture: The Fall of Charleston On Tuesday, February 10, at 7 PM, Durant Ashmore will present a fascinating lecture titled “The Fall of Charleston.” History enthusiasts won’t want to miss this engaging evening.

 

🧬 Genealogical Society Show & Tell The Laurens District Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, February 12, at 7 PM. This special show-and-tell event invites attendees to bring favorite photos, letters, books, stories, or adventures to share. Open to the public!

 

Black History Month Baseball Presentation Local baseball historian Scott Busch will give a presentation on Tuesday, February 24, at 7 PM. He’ll highlight lesser-known Black baseball stars from South Carolina and discuss Larry Doby, a South Carolina native and the second person to break the baseball color barrier.

 

🌺 Women’s History Month: Circle of Strength Native American women are partnering with the museum to present “Circle of Strength: Wisdom from Native Women” on Saturday, March 7. • 10 AM–12 PM: Marcy Hayden, Pee Dee Indian Tribal member, will offer an empowering talk followed by a Q&A session. • 1–3 PM: Keepers of the Word, an all-female drum circle, will perform and share historical insights. Attend one session or both—no registration required.

 

🎨 Community Art Show Our Community Art Show will be on display March 14–April 25 in the traveling exhibit hall. Featuring work by Barbara and Jim Brinson and Jim’s community art class, the exhibit includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, realism, and abstract works from both beginners and professional artists.

 

🏛️ Magnolia Room Open House An Open House for the Magnolia Room will take place on Saturday, March 14, from 12–3 PM. Stop by to meet local vendors—caterers, event planners, photographers, and more—while enjoying refreshments. If you know someone planning an event or wedding, please spread the word!

 

📖 Book Signing: A South Carolina Jewel Peggy Cwiakala has released her new book, A South Carolina Jewel: Celebrating the Laurens County Museum, now available on Amazon. Join us for a book signing on Saturday, March 21, from 1–3 PM. Books will be available for purchase at the museum.

 

🏃 Glow Run – Registration Now Open! Registration is now open for our Glow Run on April 25! This fun, high-energy event is a wonderful way to support the museum while enjoying an evening of movement, lights, and community spirit. We encourage runners and walkers of all ages to sign up and join the glow!
